Microplate test in ELISA format for the detection of anti-Toxoplasma gondii IgG immunoglobulins in human sera.
LisaKIT Toxo IgG is an ELISA microwell test for the detection and quantification of anti-Toxoplasma gondii human IgG in human serum.
It is mainly used for the screening of infection on pregnant women as a part of the TORCH panel. T. gondii is a widely spread obligate intracellular protozoan parasite and, probably the most frequent protozoan infection agent in man. Cats act as definitive hosts and the man (along with other vertebrate animals) as an intermediate host. The parasite is transmitted by the ingestion of poorly cooked meat and improperly washed vegetables. Clinical symptoms are varied and include fever, headache, lymphadenopathy, sometimes pneumonia and myocarditis. Toxoplasma gondii causes congenital toxoplasmosis (chorioretinitis, hydrocephaly, microcephaly, cerebral calcification and psychomotor retardation). Immunosuppressed patients may develop encephalitis, myocarditis or pneumonitis. Monitoring of oxoplasmosis requires serological control of infected individuals and specially in pregnant women.
