Microplate test in ELISA format for the detection of prostate specific antigen (PSA) in human sera.
LisaKIT PSA is a microplate test for the detection and quantification of total prostate specific antigen (PSA) in serum.
Its usefulness lies in the fact that PSA is one of the few tumour markers that, detected above a given concentration, features a clinic advantage in the diagnostic and monitoring of prostate cancer, second male malignancy in importance and the most significant in advanced years. Low levels of PSA are normally present in the bloodstream, and increasing serum concentrations indicate prostatic pathology, including benign prostatic hyperplasia and cancer of the prostate.
LisaKIT PSA may be used like confirmatory and/or supplemental serodiagnostic quantitative test to verify results obtained with other screening test like digital rectal examination (DRE) and transrectal ultrasonagraphy (TRUS).
Prostate antigen is a protein with a molecular weight of 34,000 daltons (in its free state) and a serine-protease-like enzymatic activity that plays a major role in semen gelification-liquefaction processes.
