Infections by Chlamydia trachomatis affect humans exclusively. Despite being the pathogen of the greatest prevalence in sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in the Western world, it is one of the least-diagnosed aetiologic agents, due to the high percentage of cases of asymptomatic infection.

At present, sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) make up the most common group of infectious diseases that must be reported in the majority of the world's countries. Their incidence is elevated, and more than 20 pathogenic micro-organisms are known to be transmitted by sexual contact, with Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Trichomonas vaginalis and Mycoplasma (genitalium and hominis) being the most common.

Trichomonas vaginalis (protozoal) is the etiologic agent of trichomoniasis, one of the most frequent sexually transmitted disease (STD). Infection rates among men and women are similar, although usually only women show symptoms, while infections in men are generally asymptomatic. Trichomoniasis can increase the risk of contracting or spreading other sexually transmitted infections such as HIV.

Infections of S. pneumoniae represent an important public health problem in both industrialized nations as well as those that are less-developed. It is responsible for high mortality and lethality, as it is one of the main causative agents for a large variety of clinical conditions, from benign infections, like otitis media and acute sinusitis, to more severe infections, such as septicaemia, meningitis and pneumonia.

Dr. María Vega Almazán and co-workers from different Pediatric, Clinical Diagnostic and Research Units from Granada and Cordoba (Spain) published an interesting article studying the prevalence of subclinical celiac disease (CD) and analyzing the diagnostic yield of a new rapid test in children aged 2–4. Our Simple CD2WB immunochromatographic test strip was used in this study being an excellent diagnostic screening tool with high sensitivity and negative predictive value.
